A lot of the success of job screening depends on the ability of an employer to spot a lie. Even though most employers hire the services of an employment screening company for the purpose of job screening, employers do need to be vigilant and make sure that they are able to assess the candidate fairly. Some lies are fairly easy to detect. For instance, if an applicant says that he received a master's degree from Harvard and MIT but does not have a good job description since graduation, the employer should get suspicious. In this case, employment background screening should be used to confirm what the employer already suspects.
Some applicants may seem very fidgety during the entire interview process. However, this should not be taken to mean that the applicant has something to hide. Some people are nervous when it comes to interviews and in the absence of any proof, the applicant should not be disqualified.
Practiced liars often show no such signs. Really good liars often behave in the opposite way and appear unnaturally calm say psychologists. It is to see through people such as these that employment background checks are most important.
Employment background checks usually include a range of services. They include Address History/Social Security Number Trace, County Criminal Records, Statewide Criminal Records, Instant Criminal History, Federal Criminal Records, Sexual Offender Registry, County Civil Records, Federal Civil Records, Drivers History, Credit Reports, Education Confirmation, Prior Employment Confirmation, License and Certificate Confirmation, Workers Compensation Records, Drug Testing and Reference Checks.
Applicants who provide a list of references to the employer need to make sure that they have previously sought permission from the references for listing their names. They also need to be fairly confident that they will be getting a good report from their references. Employment verification is the most important stage of job screening.
