The most basic instant background checks will include a criminal records search, a Social Security number authentication and DMV records search. Many people turn to a background check company to get this information as quickly as possible, or to get more in-depth information.

Criminal records are important for job screening and tenant screening for obvious reasons; no one wants to hire or house a liability. These instant background checks will reveal a person's date of birth, any warrants they have for their arrest, and usually if they have un-cleared charges against them. DMV records often contain Social Security authentication, because a person must have a Social Security card to get a driver's license or state ID card.

In many cases it will not reveal driving history, but a background check company can persuade the DMV to provide this information, which is necessary for many employers. An instant background check will easily reveal basic information, such as whether a person has been honest about their previous employers and addresses, and whether they have a legitimate Social Security number.
